    My dear John
    Last night we were all drunk. all drunk., Aye,
    all drunk,
    With Joy, John.

    My Again dear John,
    I last evening sallied out from our happy party and called on Revd. Edwards. – who has all along been a thorough good one in Edmunds cause, and related to him our progress in the canvass. He directed X to me the best of news in the shape of Mr. Giles’ communication to him, by saying as far as it laid in his power Mr. Miles Edmund Cotman should be the Man. And it is pretty generally and well known, the choice will depend on him, - indeed it wd be highly injudicious to choose a Drawing Master against the Head Masters opinion. – And Head Master he is of the “City of London School”. He also told Mr. Edwards not to suffer Miles to load the board of committee with testimonials but confine himself to the great Guns of K C. This kind hint will be adopted, with this difference, by my suggestion. – Expose the Great Guns at once upon the Table, and enclose all the smaller Arms in an envelope, to be opened upon them should occasion require street firing or mince meat work – you understand of course, John. – but I trust it won’t come to that.
