    afraid to move lest I rouse her to feelings that I would have her escape. My daughter, Anne, and John are away and no longer watching me with the eyes of Basilisks. I feel that the same ardour that are guided me in all my undertakings now worries me to despair. My poor little Girl could have stood it but a little time longer. God's will be done! In him I have ever relied,
    Dear Sir, it was not my intention to have written thus when I began this letter.
    I am, Sir, your distressed servant J. S. Cotman.
    June 30 - 1826.
    I would say, present my respects to Mr Turner. So kind a friend as she has been to me is never to be forgotten. But I want courage to appear before her now. So humbled.
