    Dear Mr. Kitson,
The John Sell Cotman portrait came up for consideration
at the meeting of the Castle Museum Committee held yesterday
and after some discussion it was decided not to entertain the
offer. I believe you said that in this event you would
wish to acquire the portrait and the owner's name and address
    is as follows:-

                              J.H.Shepherd, Esq.,
                                     "Woodcote"
                                                    Knaresboro'
                                                               Yorks.
I should like to suggest however that it might be as

well to substantiate the history of the portrait.
    Yours sincerely

                                                                        FRANK LENEY
                                                                                                 Curator.
