    July 7. Mr Morine [the dancing master] came at night.

    July 13. Mr Cotman came at 3 in the morning.
    July 15. Mrs Cholmeley & Mr Cotman at Gilling in the morning. Began to mow.
    * July 16 Mr, Mrs, Miss & Mr Richard Selby came to dinner.
    July 17. Mr Cotman went to Whitwell.
    — 19. Mr, Mrs, Miss & Mr Richard Selby went away.
    July 20. Mr Cotman returned in the evening. [1]
    — 21 Mr & Mrs Blount & Lady Douglas came to dinner.
    July 25. Mr Cotman went to Helmsley.
    July 27. Francis went to Helmsley & returned with Mr Cotman.
    July 30. Mr Cotman & Francis set off for Rokeby Park.
    Aug 3. Mr & Mrs C & the 4 girls set out for Crathorne & Northumberland
    Sept 4. Mr & Mrs Cholmeley & the 4 girls returned home.
    Sept 14. Mr Cotman came at night.
    Sept 19. Began to cut rye on the far farm.
    Sept. 21 Francis returned home, after passing some time at Rokeby Park, Hesleyside [2] & Biddlestone. [3]
    Sept 25. Mr Cotman and Francis at Newburgh in the morning.
    Sept. 30 Lord Palmerston & Mr L. Sullivan came after breakfast.
    Oct 2. Lord Palmerston, Mr Sullivan & Francis at Castle Howard in the morning.
