Feb 22. 1929. Went to M.S.S. Room Brit. Mus. [Manuscript Room, British Museum]. Saw Vol VI, VII and parts of VIII of Dawson Tuner's extra-illustrated Blomefield's 'Norfolk'. Many of the drawings are direct copies from JSC. The Watercolours poor. The Sepia drawings ditto. Mrs Turner has a poor copy of JSC's w.c. [watercolour] of Happisburgh font (SDK) and an etching on reversed from the drawing. 'The Overgrown Well' (RHK) is "Erpingham, well, much overgrown with ivy. ET (Lady Palgrave) 1814"
There were some good brown and ink sepia drawings 'from sketches by Col: Lukis' 1845 & 1846. & some excellent watercolour full size drawings of flint implements and ancient gold objects - mostly by M. A. Turner.

March 29. 1929. Visited B.M. Saw Vols 1, 2 & 3 of above. found an unrecorded soft ground etching by JSC. The font of Ashmanshaw [Ashmanhaugh, Norfolk] Church. No writing on plate, but 'J S Cotman Dec 1. 1813' - on margin in pencil. looks like a litho: but is a s.g. etching. 6¾ x 5.
There is a very fine drawing (sepia and red ink) of the 'very ancient oak tree in Bathale or Bale.' July 1836.
    D. T. S. catalogue says it is by Harriet Gunn, but I think it must be J. S. C. Some of H. Gunn's copies, copy also J. S. C's writing.
