I heard of a man once who married a fair wife but the young thing was dumb, yet for the love he bore her, for the qualities he admired & the virtues he reverenced in her, for her happiness sake & for his he held sweet converse with her as though she would return it, without hope, yet happy in the responses which her eyes conveyed or her endearments expressed. He was a happy man! –
    Farewell Dear John.
Do not forget me. From the thirty first ultimo to the thirtieth Inst. do I watch that old rascal as regularly as he disappoints me. Do treat me now & then John.
    Ever your affectionate Friend,
    Arthur Dixon
