Journal entry with small sketch
Journal entry describing trip to Christie's , and containing a sketch (by Kitson) of a Cotman work bought for Leeds Art Gallery.

July 11 1934- Called at Christie's found Sir Atlee [Maitus] in his shirt sleeves in the basement sorting pictures- he showed me 2 water colours belonging to Lady Powell-
(1) and early [illegible 1 word] castle, indigo in sky [illegible 1 word]- rather a fine thing. c 1800-1801.
(2) a landscape c 1807- on sugar paper of a stream in a hilly valley, with a bridge + [illegible 1 word] in water + foreground- a village + church center foreground-? on the wharf. The execution is halting and miniature possibly a [humdrum] copy of some unknown Cotman (which must be a fine thing)? Maitus said it did not [illegible 1 word] time to him.
Upstairs there is a lovely little [upright ] oil, "on the banks of the [illegible 1 word]
Bought for the Leeds Art Gallery for 120gs.
