Sunday May 5. 1928. Lunched with Gaskell - Kidlington Hall. He has a sepia landscape. 9 x 13½. Signed J. S. Cotman. bottom right.

bought at a shop near Paddington Station, 25 years ago for under a sovereign.

He also has an exquisite little pencil sketch. 4¼ x 3⅜. signed 'Cotman [1805?]' - this may have been added, as the sketch of the soft ground etching class looks c. 1815. the style - or mannerisms - are fully developed - It is the exact facsimile reversed same size as soft ground etching 18. 'NORWICH THORPE'.
