Keeper (Curator) of Prints and Drawings at the Victoria and Albert from 1921 - 1935.
Translated the German History of Etching in 1906 and published ‘English Coloured Books’ in the same year. He published his own drawings from WWI in 1918, ‘British School of Etching’ in 1921, edited ‘A Sketchbook of Thomas Girtin’ in 1939 for the Walpole Society, and wrote ‘Water-colour Painting in Britain,’ which was published posthumously in 1966.
