1889 - 1970
A scholar of Italian Art. He worked in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum, and became Keeper of Prints and Drawings in 1945. After retirement in 1954, he embarked on essentially another career of cataloguing print collections for major auction houses and scholars. He succeeded A P Oppe as European advisor to the National Gallery of Canada, Ottowa, for drawing aquisitions.
