Son of JJ Colman. Collector of Cotman’s work.
The remainder of the Bulwer collection that had been shipped to England after 1918 was sold in 1936 to Colman. The collection was bequeathed to the Norwich Castle Museum at the time of his death in 1946.
In 1946 RJ Colman bequeathed to the Castle Museum, thousands of Norwich School paintings, watercolours and drawings, including many major works by Cotman and CROME. He also provided for the construction of two galleries in which to exhibit them. His bequest also included the Rev James Bulwer’s Norfolk Collection.
