Daughter of Sir Henry Englefield, Reading based landed gentry. She married Franis Cholmeley in 1782, shortly after he had inherited Brandsby Hall in North Yorkshire.
Theresa appointed John Sell Cotman as drawing master in 1803 to teach her young daughters, Anne (known as 'Wowie'), Mary Catherine, Katherine Henrietta and Harriet. It was Harriet Cholmeley who coined the phrase 'Cotmania'
