Robert Laurence Binyon

British, 1869 - 1943

Going by his middle name, Laurence Binyon was a poet, dramatist and art scholar, best known for his poem 'For the Fallen,' which is now used in Remembrance Sunday services.
Both Pre- and Post-War, he worked in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum, rising to Keeper of Prints and Drawings in 1933. With an interest in English Romanticism, Binyon led the re-appraisal of John Sell Cotman in the interwar period.
