A landscape painter in oil and watercolour. Birch was born in Egremont, Cheshire, on 7th June 1869. He was self taught in art but did spend a year in Paris at the Atelier Colarossi 1895-96. S.J Birch took the additional name of Lamorna in order to distinguish himself. Much of his work was carried out in Cornwall, and often features river scenes, perhaps connected to his love of fishing!
