Two series of index cards created by Hake to help with the distribution of Kitson's art collection.
Series 1. Arranged in two index boxes marked with National Portrait Gallery, London, labels. Both boxes are titled, 'J.S. Cotman Drawings'. One box is labelled 'Index in order of size', the other 'Catalogue Index'. ‘J.S. Cotman. Drawings. Catalogue Index’ contains 6 bundles of cards written in Hake’s hand. 4 bundles are grouped according to the subject of the work: Architecture, Figures and Animals, Landscape and Seascape, and Miscellaneous. Each bundle has a note attached, as to its content and is arranged A-Z; and 2 bundles are an index of place names, also arranged A-Z. There are brief notes in another hand on the back of all the index cards. ‘J.S. Cotman. Drawings. Index in order of size’. Contains a bundle of cards written in Hake’s hand.
