and asked if I would live with the two young men who live near the Warehouse. I said ‘Yes’, he then said he did not like me to be dependant on my Father and that he would advance my Salary and wished me to push on he thought I was right in my choice and so indeed must every one for a Clerk may get 200 or perhaps 300 a year but a Salesman may get anything he likes eventually. I do not know exactly what the advance will be but suppose about equal to 20 £ making about 50 £ per annum for first year. God bless you, my dr John, I know how glad you will be to hear of this for remember all my letters have been full of fear of leaving and a low salary, now an advanced Salary and no fear makes me more comfortable. tell Arthur Dixon, please, of it and that I will write to him in a day or two but we are taking stock and stay late. tell all those who are interested in my fate particular Uncle Edmund and Henry X X
Tell Henry nothing like X . Good night ever your Affectionate Brother
