My Dr Brother
I have just sent a letter [[of]] to Father of yours but not the one I originally intended as the envelope of this is part of it. the date of the frank was too late for me, I hope therefore he will not look at the abruptness of the letter as it was written at the Warehouse during business hours. In that I promised to answer your questions but first allow me to thank you for the warm advice. I have followed it and although for the first two or three days found them troublesome yet now feel very little inconvenience from them. The room or rooms I am in are the Jacconete, X , Silk, Nantreen, rooms but many kinds of goods besides these are of course kept there such as X Chambry checks
My employment is selling good when the other two are engaged, and taking customers about the house, putting goods in their right places &c. When I first went into these rooms I was determined to take a leading place and did for a time and would not give customers up to the older hands, the consequence was that the young men did not like me so at last I find it best to submit but mind there is not a vacancy in the rooms I am in so that I did wrong it taking such a part, if there was of course I should be the regular salesman it is bussed about and I doubt not but that the Scotch trade will be added to our house, if so perhaps some of the young men may be remov’d and one put instead if not I shall endeavour to get into that room but
