    My dear Father
I had written a long letter to you, but having it franked by Mr. Potter for the eighth think that will be too late to find you in Norfolk. When you sent me the London Paper with Norwich on the envelope I knew by the seal it was from you and wrote immediately but the X X of the frank rendered it useless. I have no news but that I am without cash and ten day in arrears, want 2 pr of shoes, Coats repairing and several odd matters. I should not have been in arrears if John had not directed me to purchase some [[illegible 1 word]] Drawers and Stockings but he makes me a present of them so in truth I am not in arrears. My health I thank God is good and all I wish for is a busy time. thank John for his X . I shall use the envelope for him as you in all probability will be off. I was glad Yesterday to hear your Speach and toast. Old Norwich promises to flourish again, so much the better for John – things continue here as usual flat but cannot continue so more than a month or so as the stock’s on hand that is the London[[e]]’s and Drapers must have but a small stock and so we shall have them all at once. Give my love to Dr John and I will answer all his questions the next letter. Love to relations and friends.

I do assure you I exercise the strictest economy and hope do not inconvenience you. tis very provoking just as I fancy to have made a very economical week to find shoes mending &c. these little things almost make me think economy
