    My dear John,
I received your letter yesterday and was very glad to have one from you for a long time, since I had been hoping to have one. First for business I can easily account for the mistake about the money you mentioned the doubt you expressed was in consequence of a letter to Uncle in the parcel Mr. Gayford favoured, now if you refer to the date of that letter you will see that it was written a long time ago before I had received the money Uncle was so liberal to let me have. I left the letter for you at N. U. Office to be enclosed with the 1 hand’s 2 and 3 asked the young Man to take out the old letter and I would call for the parcel in an hour now he forgot to do this and I was not aware of it until I asked him for it the next day. I had wrote to Uncle since I received the money which I hope he has received but I do not enter them in my book so as to know the day it went but will for the future. My dear John I must here make a remark. You said you directed the letter containing the money to the N.U. Office, but it was not so, but to Sidney St. I mention this only that it might have been of consequence had it been lost. You wished to know how I am off for money after I received the five pounds, I considered that instead of buying a cloak, hat and other things [[that]] I would defer them with the exception of a hat, umbrella and boots untill I could better afford them, this week at least on Saturday night will leave me nothing of it but Papa is going to send me five pounds first payment of the sum of eight shillings per week and I have not yet drawn from Potters, nor do I intend untill we are settled and I am properly engaged I said in the last letter that we should not remove for about three weeks but expect we shall commence next week.
