good and faithful terrestrial Friends. Prepare yourselves, as I do, for both events – for then we cannot be disappointed. Pray send this to Mr Turner. I shall write nothing he may not see. Gurney must be a delight to his Mother. God bless you all.
    Yours affect[ionate]ly
    J. S. Cotman

    ½ past 11 a.m Jan[uar]y 2nd 1834.
I am just returned from Sir Frank Palgrave, where I breakfasted. No news beyond what you have here in Pen & Ink. But Lady Palgrave will write this day to ascertain of the Principal of the College whether it is likely to be decided tomorrow week. At all events I stop over Sunday. Mr Bulwer & myself are now off to see G. Cooke, Barnes Terrace, and very likely shall call on Stark. It will be too late to say more on my return, therefore shall conclude here. Kisses, as usual.
    Your affectionate Head
    J. S. Cotman.
I have just seen Adamy [note in pencil: Adams?]. He has invited me to stay with him all the time I am in London. But that won’t do. I am in a better walk, and I know well how I stand, and will keep my standing. No news must be good news. As soon as I hear, myself, anything, you shall know directly. Remember me most kindly to Geldart, Dixon, Lound, and to others who may say ‘how is your Father?’ The two first are the only persons in the Secret, you know. Bulwer has just given me a New Year’s gift, a nice walking cane. G. Turner breakfasts by invitation from Mr Bulwer on Sunday.

To Dawson Turner – My dear Sir, you are now in possession of all my great affairs. I must not utter my thoughts of you here. I hope to see you in Yarmouth soon. I shall be most happy to be favoured with a letter. Your most obliged J. S. Cotman. Just returned from Cooke’s: all well, & regards, etc. I have a general invitation to Duke St.
    More Pupils offered.
