Addressed to Mr. J. J. Cotman,
    27 Charlotte Street,
    Bloomsbury.

    Thursday afternoon.

    My dear John,
You cannot count more than I do of the time when we, shall go sketching together, but at the same time I feel rather inclined to laugh at the idea, oh what a hand I shall make of it, well, that cannot be helped, begin I will as soon as I find myself capable of such a delightful occupation. I am very much pleased to find you like my drawings and also glad that Papa thinks I do trees best for I like them better than any thing else although I try them all. We spent a very pleasant evening at Mr. Dixon’s last Tuesday but was much disappointed in Miss Allburgh’s playing she plays I think without the least feeling which after all is the greatest beauty in music, for the most simple airs may be rendered very beautiful when played with good taste. My dear Brother I really have no news to tell you so you must rest contented with reading the one I send Papa, and this. next time perhaps I shall pick up something in the shape of news, worth taking a sheet of paper. I am very glad to find you think Papa’s plan a good one Poor Man I fear he is very uncomfortable, and feels he is in a great Mess. I cannot say any thing about it as I do not know your proceedings I very often wish I did then I should be able to judge better. Having nothing else to tell you I must conclude and Believe me ever to remain
    Your attached Sister
    Patty.
P.S. I had no right to sign my name so in your note, that name belongs to Papa and Papa only.
