Description
Copy of letter from Ann Cotman to John Joseph Cotman, 22 September 1834
Ann is glad that John Joseph and their father are apparently in better spirits. She hopes to recommence her studies when she is settled into the new home. She asks about a house that her father may be taking in London. She will call on Mrs Richard Morgan. Both she and Miles Edmund have declined Dixon’s offer of a ticket to the Horticultural Dejeuner. She must accept that she will not be as well-read as she would wish.

So soon as we get settled I shall commence my studies again for these are a constant source of amusement to me when I can have the time to bestow upon them, Papa tells me you are looking after a house when you can tell us all about it where it is to be and when we are to take it I hope you will. I began rather too much in a hurry to write to you for having written one letter I feel myself rather at a loss to write a second, shame be it said, but my will is good, though my letter bad, I am going this morning to call upon Mrs. Richard Morgan which I do not much approve of but still must do it. for I fear she must think that I had treated [her] rudely already. On Wednesday Arthur Dixon sent me a ticket for the Horticultural Dejeuner which I declined accepting of course, as I could not go alone, he then sent it to Mrs. Chapman’s for Edmund but he declined it also. I should think by what you have written to him he wishes
