Addressed to Mr. J. J. Cotman,
    43 Gerrard Street
    Soho.

    August 27th
    1834.

    My dear John
Do not ever think that it is through forgetfulness at any time that you do not hear from me, but attribute the cause either to want of time [or] of something to tell you, which is now the reason of both Papa’s, & your letter being so short.
Why John, how came you to see my piano in the catalogue? for what I know it is not down nor do I think it is. I merely send this John to prevent you thinking that I forget you, not that I have done anything to tell you, I must try and send you a longer one next time, till then rest satisfied with this.
    I remain my dear John
    Your affectionate Sister
    Anne Cotman.

I am really quite ashamed of this scrawl, burn it, John, as soon as read.
