    [Note in pencil:] Probably May 1834

    when we were down the water, at Mr. Davies coming to see who were down in Mr. Geldart’s boat, he fancied that it had been his son in law that is to be instead of my brother and wondered what ladies we could be. Poor man! What a sad plight to be in. you will say Oh Anne what nonsense, true enough it is, but when one has nothing else to write about how should they write it. I think the letter I wrote last to you was such a one as you did not much like answering, I am almost glad you did not, it did not merit an answer. I remain my dear Brother
