servant. I have got Miss Thurlowe. I am to give the first lesson next Monday. The eventful hour is 12. I like this. I did not think I had one bit of pleasing news to communicate and this comes as a windfall, it must be the grand event of the whole of this stupid letter. Oh though I have been to the life academy three times – 1st time, Did a little. 2nd time, Very bad, 3rd and I have determined Last time. Wurse. I have determined on this, not intending to give it up altogether, but with the intention of preparing myself first by the study of the extremities – the casts – in fact I intend to know more about it before I attempt the whole figure. I believe Geldart has made the same resolution. We shall only study at the Academy of an evening when they have a rustic as we can have a key for morning. I should have liked to see you with Father just to shew you off as the London Lion at this grand fair, and only console myself by the reflection, "that you may be better engaged["].
We laugh and tell Mother it is intended as an honor to her – she never went to see the fair and as it is perhaps the last she may have the chance of seeing. it has come to her.
My gruel is now come up so I shall only say the two letters I send you for the twopenny post ought to have been sent in the past parcel, so pray deliver them spe[e]dily and believe me dear John to remain your affectionate Brother
    Miles E. Cotman.

We received the letter blowing us up for not writing about half an hour after the one acknowledging our letter’s.
