    SCHOOL OF MILITARY ENGINEERING CHATHAM
    12 January, 1933.

    Dear Sir,
Colonel Noble has forwarded to me your letter of the 3rd January, regarding John Sell Cotman, the artist.

There is no record of a post of drawing master being in existence at the School of Military Engineering in 1825.

A course in Practical Architecture was started that year but this was concerned with drawing architectural detail and landscape drawing did not enter into it.

It is just possible that the post Cotman sought was concerned with this course. I am making further enquiries about the staff for the course and should anything come to light, I will let you know.
    I remain Yours faithfully C P Worsfold
    (Staff Captain).

    S.D.Kitson, Esq.,

    Kidlington,
    Oxon.
