To Dawson Turner Esq Norwich
Yarmouth August 25th ‘11.
Dear Sir,
As you requested me, I have enclosed to your House the second part of my miscellaneous Etchings for the following gentlemen - Mr Sparrow, Mr. Jermyn, Mr Davy - Mr Paget’s crept in by mistake, to remedy which I have requested Mr Keymer to call for it, that he may deliver it for me. I am happy to state to you that my Subscription goes on as well as could be expected considering the exposure of the Work. The Majority is much in favour of the folio edition. I am now at liberty, having completely sent off all my numbers. Consequently I am eager to commence my attack, but I feel at a great loss where to find a good & profitable route - the want of which makes it seem more like a voyage of discovery. Lynn, however, will be my route, Castle Rising & Castle Acre my chief objects. But should I hear of anything either to the lee, or to the windward of me, I shall crowd all sail and happy shall I be, should I make a prize, should you hear of anything in my way, the favour of stating them to me, any time this week, will add to the very many obligations I must ever find myself under to you.
I am, dear Sir,
Your most obliged, & obedient servant
John S. Cotman
Our Exhibition closed on Saturday, and I believe gave greater satisfaction than ever. The receipts were within a trifle of last year, a thing not expected, from the small number of persons in Norwich this Assize.
