    To Dawson Turner Esq.
    Yarmouth.
    Dec: 21. 1833.
    Dear Sir,
    I have great pleasure in forwarding a copy of the Mayor's letter, which I think you will compliment me upon. I now have reason to thank God for warm friends and time - and perhaps for not having forfeited my Castle.
    yours truly
    J. S. Cotman.

    //
    Dear Sir,
    I am most happy to hear of the favourable position in which you stand for the appointment of Professor of Drawing at the King's College.

    I feel it only due to you to state that the instruction which you have given in my family for some years past has been most satisfactory to yourself and has afforded me the best proofs of your efficiency & skill in bringing forward Pupils in the Art od Drawing, etc.

    Allow me also to add that the exemplary conduct which you have displayed in all the relations of private life, coupled with the good principles which you not only profess but act upon, make me regret the prospect of losing youas an Inhabitant of Norwich, where, as a fellow - resident with you all my life, I have had the most ample opportunities of knowing your habits and character.
    With every good wish, believe me, dear Sir,
    yours very truly
    (signed) Samuel Bignold.
    Mayor of the City of Norwich & an acting magistrate of the County of Norfolk."

    The other letter is gone but I could not resist the pleasure of sending you this addenda. Should I want it, the Mayor's letter will enable me to wait on Lord Stormont - who, I understand, is connected with the interests of the College.

Recommendation as Professor of Drawing from Samuel Bignold, Mayor of Norwich.
