    My dear Madam,
My health and Spirits are not good enough at this time to allow me to come over to Blofield, or I would most assuredly have done so today. Not that I am aware by my so doing I could have rendered what I have to say to you a bit more agreeable. For the Subject that it is my most painful duty to speak to you upon, is one of a most fearful interest both to you and to your family, and one I should have been most glad to have Saved you from could it have been in my power. -- It is not. And I feel myself called upon to request you to prepare yourself with all your fortitude, and resignation. For the sad information I am about to give you., alas! will need [[very]] much of both. One only consolation remains to us, under circumstances so trying, and that is a firm reliance upon God. To whose will we must endeavour to bow with resignation, if we are desirous of an consolation or peace in this world of tears and trouble. -- I deeply regret to say I received a Letter to day (Tuesday) from Mr. Hawkins in consequence of Mr. Miles finding himself unable to write upon so melancholy an occasion from his distress of mind and body, requesting me to inform you of the late severe illness of your Daughter, Mrs. Miles with a severe bilious fever of 11 days, which after having had the best medical attendance ( I grieve to inform you) terminated fatally. Her desire to see Miss Miles during her illness induced Mr. Miles to send for her, and she left Norwich on Sunday Morning for Jersey accompanied by my son John. But they will not arrive there
