    Postscript of a letter from Hudson Gurney (1775 - 1864) to Sir F. Palgrave, written from Keswick Hall.
    "Cotman is now in the house, teachig the child, I do not know of any other 'job' I can do for him!

    [From a bound volume of M.S. letters from M.S. to F.P at Bush Hall, Hatfield. in possesion of Geoffrey Barker, grandson of R. H. J. Palgrave.
    Hudson [[Turner]] Gurney married in 1809 a d of Robert Barclay.
    They had no children. (D.N.B.)]

    Extract from a letter written by Hudson Gurney (at Keswick) to Dawson Turner (at Yarmouth)
    For Cotman I am told is getting on very well as a Drawing Master and that if he goes on regularly in that employ he will have all that it affords in this place - so that probably his skirting off for things much more to his Taste would add nothing to his means of Living -Old John Crome had everything here and whilst He lived there was but a Bad Chance in Norwich for another Master, but John Crome the younger I am told is losing his pupils rapidly. Cotman comes here to Barclay's child, but I have yet had no conversation with him.]]
