Addressed to Mrs Cotman St Martins at Palace plain, Norwich, Norfolk.

    Hanworth Friday 16th 1826.

    My dear Mother
I wish to inform you that we had a very comfortable ride and we arrived quite safe, but when we had got about half way John would have the colours out of Catherine's bundle to put on the poneys head but you must not say anything about it for they were orange and purple ones. When we arrived I am glad to say we found both Uncle and Aunt quite well. On Wednesday afternoon John and I went a fishing but we had very bad luck for we caught only four little things not worth carrying home. And on Thursday we went to Cromer before breakfast for a dip and tell Edmund we had a very pleasant one. And on Friday morning I was writing a letter to you. And for Saturday we have an invitation to Mr Sandfords to dine, when I daresay we shall have another dip. Dear Mother I must beg to conclude hoping that you Papa and all Brothers and Sisters are quite well and giving my love to you all. Dear I beg to remain your
    dutiful and affectionate Son
    J. J. Cotman
P.S. Will you be so kind as to send my cockade. And tell Edmund to try and borrow a fishing pole for me.
