children- this lasted for some hours !!!!
Our measure is so full of bitterness that I believe we should one and all be content to lay down to sleep for ever. I could embreace that hour with thanksgiving & prayer, and call it, the greatest blessing that could now befall us. Adversity loosens the ties to earth & forces us to think on him, who in hours of happiness we may have too much neglected. If so, this chastisement is to be considered a blessing and a mercy - however bitter it may now seem to us.
    I am, Sir, respectfully J. S. Cotman.
