The best was Banks of the Yare on March 2nd. The most interesting the faded blue church at Foster's. I'm not happy about my notes on Christie's March 16th. I'm not sure that 83 was the lot that Mrs Constable bought but it was, I think, the drawing which seemed to be the best of a very bad lot.

My few purchases have been interesting enough but not Cotman. All sorts of plans, mislaid at Easter & in the end we spent a few days in the Cotswolds in the house where there was a very bad- sort of- so-called Entrance to Gunton Park bought some years ago at the Leicester Galleries & as no one there believed it to be Cotman, as alleged, and there was a valuation going on for probate I agreed. But there was some Cotman of a kind at bottom.

    Yours ever, Paul Oppé.
