July 3 1934- called at squires gallery- saw a large monochrome of Bolton Abbey, rather fine, been cleaned, figures looked like Munn was in a bundle at Sotheby’s- with [John] (old) [Crome] Llanthony Abbey on [illegible 1 word]. Bought it. Went on to Walker’s- saw P. Oppe there. The pencil drawing of [illegible 1 word] looked very well framed- E [illegible 1 word] told me himself that he thought it the finest [illegible one word] drawing he had ever seen.
Went on to Collnaghi’s who had a very lovely watercolour of a castle, c. 1807-8- with ‘[Hatley] Castle Yorkshire’ on the back. Baskett said ‘there were some more where that came from’- I bought it.
July 10 1934- P.M. [illegible 1 word] came at 11.30 + stayed till 5.30. He brought one of the volumes of the Cotman Crown Point Catalogues with the loveliest photos of Cotman pictures [illegible 2 words] by S.W [Newberry], 7 Stockwell Terrace, London S.W 9.
July 8 1934- The [partners] (of the ashmolean) called at 4 + stayed till 10. K.C [illegible 1 word] thought my ‘Dead Christ’ might be by Pietro Testa as there was an unmatched drawing of this [illegible 1 word] in red chalk by him in the B.M.
