    Two journal entries and a clipping of a listing

    Journal entries detail the purchase of a Cotman sepia, a visit to Palser's, and the purchase of a Constable sketch. Clipping lists two Cotman drawings one of which is bought by Kitson.

    {journal entry}

    Went to [Parsons] who showed me the 2 [illegible 1 word] Cotman sepias sold on the Friday before at Christie’s from White’s collection. He wanted £12 for the 2. The first was [much] the best, so I bought that for £7- I told him I believed that he paid a very small price at Christie’s. He said yes but the dealer next him [illegible 1 word] wanted them so he had to pay him to stand down. Parsons had wanted his limit as £14- Parsons has an interesting lot of Cotman etchings-
    Called at Palser’s: [Thomson] not in but the assistant told me the early Cotman watercolour of which Oppe wrote see his letter of 17.4.34- as being sold to [Thomson] on Feb:28 at [illegible 1 word] was he sold by [Thomson] before he left the sale rooms. The upright oil (c. 1828) with V. Reinacker’s ‘Fishing’ sold at Christie’s 23.3.34, was at the gallery ( 130 guineas Thomson)

    May 3, 1934 went to Squire’s gallery- No. 72 is the drawing which was at the [Leicester] gallery, a pair to

    R. H. K’s ‘Crowland’. It was then price at 30 guineas + Victor Reinacker bought it- I bought it from Squire’s for £19. [I’m] very glad to have it. 73 is a very early drawing which I saw there some months or so ago-
    It was a good show- a fine [illegible 1 word], ‘Harbour scene’ which had been bought for some gallery- I bought at the gallery a Constable pencil sketch, ‘Thames Estuary’ from the [illegible 1 word] collection- with another drawing on the reverse.
