    {Kitson note}

    [For] V & A 'acessions 1927' 'The B.M processes an etching ' made [illegible 1 word] the same day as the V & A etching but evidently from a different plate varying in detail. The V & A impression was probably taken from an unsuccessful plate. The portrait is included in Cotman's own proof copy of his his '[Libre'], but not in the [published] editions.

    {letter from Jack W. Goodison}

    you refer in your Walpole paper? On circumstantial evidence he well might be. The plate-mark measure 10 15/16 x 8 inch.
    The same in the front says this is one of three copies, privately printed, + was presented by the artist to W. Daniell, R. A. , + also that the impressions are proof before the number, inscription + artist's name. Its thus a true description of the various editions? In case it is of any interest to you, our copy has on the fly-leaf the name E. W stillinglfeet.
    I met Hamilton Thompson yesterday who told me you are soon going away on a Helenic cruise. You are lucky to be getting out of England at this time of year, + I hope Greece is as lovely as it should be. How sudden old Mr Tetley's death was, I am afraid it will cut up his daughter's life rather badly for the time being.

                                        Yours sincerely, Jack W. Goodison.
