among his pictures: one jolly little J. S. C. of Dieppe Castle - but some very doubtful ones too: a 'Toledo' signed, a 'St Mary's Abbey' York, a very bad copy ? of the etching, a 'Mills', which the commentator who I think must be Leney calls 'truly Cotman at his best in oils', nothing of J. S. C. in it that I can see, and so on. There is an 'East Barsham Hall', which might possibly have been designed by J. S. C., but is a bad one in water colour. Also a Bathroom St Benets Mill called J. S. C.
but nothing there that I want except the little Dieppe. There are some good Vincents for them as likes them but the commentator says 26) 'Fish Auction' makes 'a pleasing scene', 27) 'Cottage with Figures' 'a pleasing effect' and 28) 'Ship building', detail of rigging is a 'pleasing feature'. Lord, oh Lord, this must be Leney but I mustn't, to him, look a gift horse in the mouth. What is the news from Palestine?
