    Aug: 26, 1932. Again spent the day at the J. S. Cotmans, Brickwall, Emmer Green, Reading.
    On the stairs.
    (39.) Two charcoal & white drawings on grey-blue paper, in one frame. (1) A River & Bridge. “July 1, 1850. J. J. C.” (2) Trees in a landscape.” Sept/50.” – both 4¾ x 8.
    (40) Trees in Gunton Park, pencil on buff paper, 8 x 11½, M. E. C(?)
    *(41) Man fishing in a stream, drop gate behind. Same subject as the Tate oil ‘1240 J. S. Cotman’. Pencil on buff paper, very spotted, c 1824. 11¼ x 8¼.
    (42) Avenue of trees, 2 stout yokels in foreground l[eft]. Charcoal & w[hite] on buff paper, “J. J. C.” 18 x 14½. Revisits one of the Cotman lithographs.
    (43) Landscape: Thorpe River, by J. J. C, unsigned, 10⅜x 18.
    *(44) Pencil on buff paper, “A Specimen of Mummeries” “J. S. Cotman King’s College”. Small boy riding a crocodile, man behind, with peacock’s feather in cap, holding its tail. The crocodile is pursuing a monkey with a ball hanging to chain which is attached to an iron girdle round its waist. 8 x 11¼. Exh[ibite]d at Tate 1922 as “Specimens of Mummeries” (No. 256.)
    (44) Self portrait of J. J. C (c. 28-30) charcoal [on – crossed out] & w[hite] on buff. 12 x 8½. Inscribed - ‘Cunnis’ or ‘Gunnis’ (?) [?].
    Dressing Room.
    *(45) Landscape, water colour, blue & yellow, very impressionistic, “J. J. Cotman 1876.” 12 x 23½.
    (46) Foundry Bridge, Norwich, watercolour ‘J. J. Cotman 1860’ 16 x 30, dull.
