    Aug: 10, 1932. Visited Mr & Mrs John Sell Cotman, at Brickwall, Emma [sic, i.e. Emmer] Green, Reading, & remained to luncheon (& tea.) They have many Cotman family drawings & relics.
    Framed in Dining room.
    (1) A pencil drawing, upright, W door of a ruined ch[urch]. Man in cocked hat & wig, seated sketching, portfolio at foot. “1531. J. S. Cotman.” c 1824, poor.
    ** (2) Pencil drawing on yellow paper. “Stiffkey Hall July 18, ’11.”, on mount. “N, South Side of Stiffkey Hall. July 18, 11.”, r[ight] bottom of drawing. 10¼ x 8½ – evidently sketched on spot. “2093.” – bottom l[eft].
    [July 17 he was at Binham, July 19 at Walsingham. A drawing of S front of Stiffkey Hall dated July 18 was in the Bulwer coll[ection].]
    (3) Sepia on buff paper. Chinese white & pale yellow. Group of trees, road & water to left, rounded tops, 9½ x 13. M.E.C(?)
    *** (4) Pencil sepia & light red. 12 x 8¾. rough sugar paper. Looking into the ground storey of the tower at Fountains Abbey, from the N. Transept. Foliage etc. very sketchy, evidently drawn on the spot. Most nobly seen.

    (7) Kilgerran [i.e. Cilgerran] Castle N. Wales. Copied from J. S. C's soft ground etching. No. 27, reversed same size, 6½ x 7½. 'M. E. Cotman', pencil.
    (8) Ship by a quay, pencil & white on buff paper. 'Cotman 4139, Yarmouth'[.] Very late 'family' drawing, 13½ x 10.
    (9) Etching of a group of trees, by J. J. C (?) 11½ x 17.
    (10) Pencil. 13 x 9½.

    Tree with a small bridge & stream below. Late family production.

    (14) Tan-y-Bwlch. '2066. J. S. Cotman', pencil, 4⅞ x 7, reverse of soft g[roun]d etching (No. 14) Same size, rather coarse drawing.
    (15) Pencil. Landscape, feeble (?) M. E. C. 2¾ x 7½.
    *(16) Pencil on cream paper. 8½ x 12¾.
    'On the Sarthe near Alençon. J. S. Cotman.' A barge, water, ch[urch] in distance left, c 1824.
