Visited Tate Gallery & saw the loan collection of Mr.
Arthur Morrison, of about 160 English oils. The
Gallery is to have the option of selecting such as it
requires. The Gallery takes no responsibility for
the attributions, which are Mr. M's own.
8 Cotmans.
(1) Small oil sketch for Samuelson's oil of the
S.Gate Yarmouth, admirable in tones of
buffs & browns. Sketchy & very skilful.
(2) Boats of the Beach at Cromer.
{sketch} - Small. c 12 x 16.
painted on a pink
ground. ? The
picture exhibited at Norwich
(3) 'Gravel Pit at Postwick Grove'.
This came out of a very dubious collection in Wales, & was
sold at Christie's 22.3.29. to A.Morrison for 22gs. 12" x 16."
The foreground is very characteristic, the tones in
background, not so much so, but on the whole
would accept it.
(4) 'A Memory of Turner.' about 15 x 22.
'Orangeman going to pieces on the bar'
