May 20, 1931. I attended a sale, with Dendy,
at Shipton Court, Shipton-under-Wychwood,
(for the trustees of the late John Graeme Thompson)
'Lot 653 A water Colour drawing of
"Harlech Castle" by John Sell Cotman
1782-1842. 8 1/2 x 11, in gilt frame'.
It was the same view as the s.g. sketching, but with goats in the foreground, & cattle & sheep scattered about, left distance, thinly painted with a lot of pencil showing, but very nice bright colour.
C. 1824.
I bid up to 24 gs: it went for 25gs to "Sanderson", really G.D. Thomson of Birmingham.
He subsequently sold it for more than £100.
