Cotman's pencil portrait of the Rev: Pendlebury Houghton
    9 May 1931

    Dear Mr Kitson
I venture to reply direct to your
letter of 6th to Mr Leney because I can
give the information, & because I can
    claim acquaintance through Mr Ar.
Batchelor who has often spoken of you.
    The Cotman drawing of Pendlebury
Houghton is pasted (by the corner) into
    Taylor's manuscript "History of the
    Congregation of Protestant Dissenters
    Worshipping at the Octagon Chapel"
which he finished writing in 1796.
The MS is most interesting & beautiful
& contains, besides, all the unsuccessful
    competing designs, only which that
of the existing Octagon was built.
