April 24, 1931. Visited Kay at N.G. Saw again the fine
    Sepia, 10 1/2 x 17 1/2, of a classical landscape. Kay says Sir
    H. Wilson wishes to sell it, & Pitman has asked that it be sent
to Nottingham to put before his Committee.
Kay also had 2 pencil drawings of Moreton Hall, the horizontal one signed 'J.S.Cotman'. They are 2 drawings of same subjects as he engravings, with slight variations. They belong to Parsons who asks 12gs for the upright & 8gs for the horizontal. They are heavy & 'all-overish' & I did not like them.
I took him some drawings of mine. He thought the Devil's Bridge & the 2 tree studies were J.J.

May 12, 1931. Went to N.G. Kay had on view a watercolour
    c. 14 x 11. of (?) St. Mary's Abbey, York. (a detached portion of
an arched Gothic ruin) fine sky, indication of landscape.
Weak drawing. C, winter of '03-04. which F.F. Madan,
    J.S.C. 49 Brunswick Gardens, W8, & East India U.S. Club,
St. James' Square, has lately acquired from Colnaghi.
It belonged to G. Bellingham Smith. Mr Madan also
owns the small w.c of 'The Aqueduct'. Afterwards
I went with Kay to his house at Blackheath: saw his oil
of a bridge with a fine sky, foreground mucked about by
another's hand (?) looks very like a Cotman. He gave
30£ for it sometime ago at Sotherby's. It was signed
    (W. Mulready R.A) The signature came off with spirits of wine.
