    March 14. 1931. Motored with C.J.M to Bush Hall
    Hatfield, Geoffry Barker's house, where we met Mr &
    Mrs G.B, & Mr & Mrs E.J. Carter. 6 Cotman drawings
    framed, in study.
    *(1) " Alençon, Normandy 2060. J.S. Cotman." the usual
    view, pencil. c 1822. c 10 x 13.
    ***(2) Sepia landscape - a distant view of Mortain. Inscribed
    on back of frame. This is the last drawing Cotman made in
    our house. He left it unfinished. M.E. Turner."
    **(3) Pencil - Postwick Grove, looking towards Bramerton.
    (inscribed on back of frame (like a Whistler)) buff paper. colour notes. c. 11 x 15
    *(4) Pencil & white chalk on buff paper. The Deer Park.
    c 11 x 8. Very fine drawing copy in mint condition.
    (5) do. do. The Hollow Oak. c 8 x 13.
    (6) do. do. A group of large Dutch boats. 'Cotman
    2490'. might be M.E.C, but more probably J.S.C c 11 x 8.
    (7) " South Porch of the Church of Louviers. Mr Cotman very much regrets
    that it was not in his power to do this porch the justice it
    deserved, in consequence of the continental interruptions
    that was experienced from the lower class of the inhabitants."
    Water colour & reed pen, almost Prout-like. c 14 x 10.
    rather messy and nasty.
    There is also a little monochrome drawing exactly like
    my Munn in technique - always known in the family
    as 'an early Varley'.
