Volume V contains Kitson’s transcriptions of documents related to John Sell Cotman, including: the auction of the contents of his house in Norwich, 1834; nineteenth- and twentieth-century catalogues of art sales; the diary of the Cholmeley family and the Brandsby Commonplace Book; a list of drawings by Cotman and pupils in the Ashmolean Museum; information on artists contemporary to Cotman, including comparative chronologies of Cotman, Thomas Girtin and Paul Munn; a catalogue of Sir Hickman Bacon’s collection of Cotmans. There are references to contemporary collectors, notably Hickman Bacon and Paul Oppé.
