    Cholmeley Diary, Vol I. May 8, 1797, to Jan 27th 1808, "Mr Cholmeley died!"
    1797, 17 May. Set a white hen with 11 eggs.
    24 —. The black and white sow produced 12 pigs.
    1798.
    21 Feb. Gathered the first primroses.
    11 April. The first swallows seen at Brandsby.
    23 —. Cut our first asparagus.
    1 May. First laylae gathered here.
    5 June. Mrs Cho[lmele]y & Catherine went to York, returned in the evening with the new housekeeper
    18 —. Ann's game hen set herself upon 13 eggs
    16 Sept. Sir H F Englefield came.
    3 Oct. Sir H. E, Mrs Cho[lmele]y & Miss Berry went to Byland, returned home to a late dinner.
    13 Oct. Sir H. E, Miss Berry, Mr & Mrs Cho[lmele]y & Mr R. Markham went to see Castle Howard. Mr Markham went from there to York. The rest returned to a late dinner.
    Oct. 19. Sir H & Lady Englefield went away.
    1799.
    Jan 25. Snow drops & Polyanthus's bloom.
    March 10. First lamb born.
    — 12. Mr & Mrs Cholmeley went to York to his assize (at Mr Pridgin's Lodgings)
    — 16. They returned home.
    April 18. First Cuckoo heard.
    June 25. Mr & Mrs Cholmeley went to York & dined at Bishopthorpe.
    — 29. Mrs Cholmeley returned from York, bringing her son from Oscott School.
