    (3) Trees on a Common, trunk of a fallen tree l foreground brownish colour. 9x13.
    (4) Cader Idris from Barmouth Sands. anchor in l foreground, ships in centre distance, blue Cader on r distance, brown near hills - the same design as L. G. Duke's early drawing, but translated with bright colours of 20 years later. 7⅜ x 12.
All these 4 drawings were probably done about the same time c. 1825 - in depression. They seem to have been mounted on a screen & varnished.

Nov. 4th. Visited Palser's, as Duke told me he had an early 'Brecon Bridge'. Saw it, a water colour from which the blue had faded, making it look rather harsh. but a fine design. Earlier than my monochrome, probably 1801. The arrangement rather different & not so accomplished.
He has also "Arch in Churchyard, in Llangollen," pencil, very [lurching?] and romantic, but a fine piece of pencil work. He offered me the 2 drawings 40£-

Nov. 5. Stayed the night at Oppé's. Basil Long came to dinner; saw the 2 Rievaulx again & some very impressive Downmans - done when he was in Rouen. Landscapes, more impressionist than Towne & more observed. Wright of Derby was with Downman on this tour.
