    Cutting describing Cotman's 'After the Storm', and diary entries about the Clint portrait and the Fitzwilliam purchase of 'Fort St-Marcouf in the Rade de la Hougue, France'

    1. AFTER A STORM. John Sell Cotman, 1782-1842.
      Swinging dark green sea. In foreground, centre, a fishing boat with four men and a dog; the bow of a second boat appears behind on right, and the stern of a third on left. A fourth vessel in mid-distance, right, heading towards centre distance. Green and white clouds on a stormy sky, a blackish-green band across top.
      Oil on canvas. 24 x 29 in.

    Aug 28. 1929. Called on the Rev: E. Farrer, Rickinghall, Botesdale, Suffolk. He promised to get further information about the Cotman-Clint portrait. He had a group of cottages charcoal and red chalk, signed 'J.S.C' - but obviously by another hand? Bright.
    Aug 29. Went to Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge. They have several new Cotmans.
    (1) Watercolour blue and yellow, beautiful, c 10 x 14, c 1824. Same feeling as 'The Needles'. Entitled Fort St-Marcouf in the Rade de la Hougue, France. bought by the Friends of the Fitzwilliam. 1927. (No 1477 in catalogue).
