    {Finberg letter}
    In the meantime I send you my notes on the problems in the first lot of sketches - those you brought the other day. Two of the copies seem to have been made in the exhibition of the Water Colour Society. My identification of these two - the W[illia]m Turner of Oxford and the W[illia]m Havell, seem to me most probably correct. That of Stump I hesitate about. Who was Stump? But the title does fit the subject remarkably well. The reference to 'asphaltum' on the back suggests an oil painting. Was it ever used in water-colours?

    {Letter from Oppé}
    I nearly wrote to you last week on returning from Sir Hickman Bacon's, but I didn't take any full notes of his Cotman's, only a few dates that you no doubt have already. But I had forgotten that he had the pencil drawing of Gunton Park, as large as the watercolour on greypaper + along the lines of, tho' doubtless earlier than, the 1841 Norfolk drawings. It is inscribed 'Gunton Park'. If however you've any queries about his drawings, write to me now that my memory is fresh. I have some notes - and I had others already.
