{Kitson's history of provenance of 'Mill' by Rembrandt}
Rembrandt's 'Mill' belonged to the Duke of Orleans. It was bought by T.M. Slade in 1792 in Paris: brought down the Seine in a barge. Slade sold it in 1793 to William Smith M.P. for Norwich & "patron of JS Cotman" DNB for 500 guineas. W. Smith was M.P. for Norwich 1802-1806 + 1807-30.
